How do I assign leads in Genie Team?

Only Admins have the ability to build lists, assign leads and set list messages.

Your team Users only have the ability to view and work the leads assigned to them. They do not have search or build list access to Genie’s databases.

By assigning leads the Admin ensures that each User has their own individual list of leads that they should be working. Users will be able to filter their own lead lists, take notes, change the status and create follow ups.

PLEASE NOTE: Lead assignment helps you quickly distribute a list of prospects to your team. However, it does not let you set assignments by any of the data characteristics in Genie’s databases. That functionality is achieved by how you build the lists that you will be assigning. If you intend to quickly assign a number of leads based on a data characteristic – for instance geography – first build a list based on that data characteristic and then assign leads from there.


How to Assign Leads

You must first build a list from which to assign leads, which is identical to the same function in the Professional package.

  • Click the “Search for Leads” icon (the blue magnifying glass) on the top left of your dashboard
  • Select the appropriate database from which to build your list (U.S. Businesses, New Businesses, etc.) and click “Build a List” from the drop-down menu
  • Create your list using the “Build a List” filter criteria selections in the left sidebar of your screen


With a list loaded in the List View screen, you’re ready to assign the leads in that list. To only assign certain leads in that list and not the entire list, then select the leads in the list you want to assign by clicking the checkbox in the 2nd column next to the lead assignment and lead name columns.

Leads that have already been assigned will have the assignment icon active in the column between the lead selection checkbox and the lead name. Hover your mouse over that icon to see the team User assigned to that lead.

Click the “Assign” action icon on the left side of the Toolbar at the top of your list to open the Assign Leads window.

PRO TIP: BEFORE you assign leads, you should include special instructions and promotions for that list by using the List Message option at the bottom of the Lead Assignment window.

You have the following options for assigning leads.


Choose Which Leads To Assign

Choose from one of up to 4 selections to assign leads:

  • All Leads:  every record, in the current list
  • Unassigned Leads: every unassigned record, in the current list
  • All Selected Leads: only the records selected by clicking the checkbox in the 2nd column of the list [only appears if records have been selected]
  • All Non-selected Leads: only the records NOT selected by clicking the checkbox in the 2nd column of the list [only appears if records have been selected]

Lead Assignment Split Type

Choose the Split Type from the dropdown menu and the list of team members underneath will change accordingly. To the far right of each team member’s name is the number of total leads already assigned to them.


There are 4 different split types that allow you to easily distribute leads to your team:

  • Custom: Assign leads by entering the number of leads that you want to assign for each User. If you leave this blank for any User, they will not receive any assignments for the leads in this list.
  • Even: Select the users to receive lead assignments by clicking the checkbox next to their name and Genie will evenly distribute leads among them.
  • Fixed: Similar to the Even split type, this lead assignment method allows you to choose the total number of records in the list to split evenly, but not the entire list. Choosing this method will display a blank field to enter the total number of records to be assigned. Then, choose the team members to receive the assignments and the total number of records specified from that list will be evenly distributed among them.
  • Single Assignment: Choose one team member to assign to all of the records.

Re-Assigning Leads

The easiest way to re-assign leads from one team User to another User is to load the list in the List/Results view and select “Assigned To” in the Team Data filter criteria selection subset in the left sidebar. Filter the list by the team User from whom the leads are being assigned. Then use the Assign toolbar action icon at the top of the list to reassign all of those leads to another User or group Users.


Re-Assigning Leads That Haven’t Been Worked

To reassign leads that haven’t been worked by the Users already assigned to them, load the list in the List/Results view and select “Worked Status” in the Team Data filter criteria selection subset in the left sidebar. Choose “Unworked” to filter the lead list to those prospects that haven’t been worked on yet. Then use the Assign toolbar action icon to reassign all of those leads to another User or group of Users.


Printing or Exporting Lists by Team member

You can print or download lists for individual Users. First, load the list in the List/Results view and select “Assigned To” in the Team Data filter criteria selection subset. Filter the list by the User and then select the “Export” action icon in the toolbar at the top of the list.

PLEASE NOTE: Only admins can export or print lists.

PRO TIP: Save the export by naming it in case you need to print or download again. You can find previous exports by selecting “Exports” in the “My Account” main menu item.
