The Genie mobile app does require an active subscription. The app will work with both paid subscriptions and for free trials. (Once the free trial expires, you will no longer be able to access the mobile app)
After you have successfully downloaded and installed the app on your mobile device, you will use the same user name and password as you would on your PC.
